Pre-PO Design Review

Catch design issues before the PO, not after fabrication.

An independent ASME VIII and TEMA review of one heat exchanger or pressure vessel, by an engineer with 20+ years in acid-service equipment. Written findings in 5 working days.

Fixed fee, confirmed within 24 hours of receiving your documents. Remote, in English, French or Arabic.

A mistake on paper costs an email. The same mistake after fabrication costs a rework.

Vendor calculations and drawings often pass through bid evaluation with issues nobody had time to check: a corrosion allowance that doesn’t match the service, nozzle loads never verified, a TEMA class that differs between datasheet and drawing. Found at FAT or in service, they mean rework, delay and disputes over who pays. Found before the PO, they are a comment to the vendor.

What we check

  • Design conditions: pressure, temperature and cases against ASME VIII Div. 1 and TEMA.
  • Thickness and corrosion allowance: shell, heads and tubesheets, for the actual service.
  • Nozzle loads: checked to WRC 537/297, a step vendors often skip.
  • Material selection: fit for the service, including titanium, zirconium, tantalum and Hastelloy in acid duty.
  • Fabrication requirements: welding, PWHT and NDT stated and consistent.
  • Document consistency: datasheet, drawing and calculation note telling the same story.

What you receive

  • A written findings report, with each issue ranked by risk (critical, major, minor) and a recommended action.
  • A 1-hour debrief call to walk through the findings with your team or your vendor.
  • Delivered within 5 working days of receiving complete documents.

How it works

  1. Send your documents: datasheet, general-arrangement drawing and calculation note for one item.
  2. Receive your quotation: a fixed fee, confirmed within 24 hours. Documents are treated as confidential.
  3. We review: an independent check against code, service and fabrication requirements.
  4. Findings and debrief: report in 5 working days, then a 1-hour call.

The review does not include full recalculation, FEA or new drawings. If the design needs rework, we can quote a mechanical design package separately.

Who it’s for

  • Fabricators and package vendors answering EPC technical comments, or wanting a second check before submitting.
  • EPC engineering teams reviewing vendor documents at peak workload.
  • Plant owners and maintenance teams buying replacement exchangers or vessels for acid, phosphate, chemical or mining service.

Why MAXWELD

  • Founder-led: every review is done by MAXWELD’s founder, a mechanical engineer (PMP) with 20+ years in shell-and-tube exchangers, pressure vessels and exotic alloys.
  • Acid-service experience: sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid and fertilizer plants, where material and fabrication choices decide equipment life.
  • ASME quality background: in a previous role as Operations Manager at a major manufacturing facility in Morocco, he deployed a quality system fully compliant with ASME Section VIII Div. 1 U-Stamp requirements.
  • Independent: our recommendations are driven by technical fit, not by what we have to sell.
  • Specialist support: an International Welding Engineer (IWE) and an ASNT Level III NDT specialist collaborate on specialist questions.

Fees

Fixed fee per item, confirmed in writing within 24 hours of receiving your documents. Packages of several items are quoted with a reduced rate for each additional item.

Frequently asked questions

  • What do you need from us? The datasheet, general-arrangement drawing and calculation note for one item. Native files or PDF both work.
  • Is our data kept confidential? Yes. Documents are used only for the review, and we sign your NDA on request.
  • Which codes do you cover? ASME VIII Div. 1 and TEMA. Ask us about other codes for your project.
  • Can you review several items? Yes. Each additional item in the same package is quoted at a reduced rate.
  • Do you redo the calculations? No. We check them and flag issues. Full recalculation, FEA or new drawings can be quoted as a design package.
  • Can you also supply the equipment? Our focus is engineering. For smaller packages, supply scope can be discussed case by case.
